I am new to data mining and have learnt about association rules mining, classification analysis, cluster analysis and outlier analysis. So, to find relationship between three variables, regression analysis is the best one to use. But my dataset has three variables out of which two are continuous and one is nominal with 5 to 10 different names. I could not find a data mining technique that could be used in my case. Can Association rules mining be used here? Are there any other techniques? If yes, please share the resources I could learn and use.

[ More specifically, I want to find a relation like this: numerical variable(1) = f (numerical variable(2), nominal variable)]
