# Does anyone actually have Orange running on a Mac to test?

I have been trying now for over a week to download some GitHub add-ons for Orange. I do not know how to use Terminal and I am asking for help to install these packages. The link is git@github.com:biolab/orange3-prototypes.git People keep telling me that they should appear but they don't. Does anyone have Orange running on a Mac so that they can try this to see if it works. And then can you post the exact code that I need to input into the terminal to get it to work? Thanks.

The easiest way to install Orange's addons is through the application itself. Open Orange, in the menu click Options -> Addons. In the popup window mark Orange3-Prototypes and click OK. Note, that doing so you will get the latest version that is published on PyPi.

If you would want to install the bleeding edge version directly from github — assuming that you installed Orange by downloading a bundle from it's website and not for example by using Anaconda — do the following. Open a terminal and paste this command:

/Applications/Orange3.app/Contents/MacOS/pip install git+https://github.com/biolab/orange3-prototypes.git

Doing so you will trigger the pip that came with the bundle and instruct it to install the addon directly from github.

Further, to install opencv, which is required by some widgets (e.g. webcamecapture) run

/Applications/Orange3.app/Contents/MacOS/pip install opencv-python

Note, however, that this is unofficial version of opencv but it seems easier to install.

• This particular cutting edge package is not available through the Addons->Install tab. Also, did you try this yourself? I just did this and they still are not appearing in Orange when I launch it. – Ethan Mar 6 '17 at 20:25
• Ethan, it think that currently, the version on github is the same as on PyPi. Check the code on github. The latest commit I see is the version bump to version 0.4.9, which is exactly what I see on Pypi. Of course I tried it myself and it worked. Do you see Orange3-Prototypes in the list if you run /Applications/Orange3.app/Contents/MacOS/pip list? – nikicc Mar 7 '17 at 10:51
• Yes, when I run that it shows that Orange3-prototypes is installed (0.4.9) but then why can I not see the face detector/webcam capture widgets when I launch Orange? – Ethan Mar 7 '17 at 19:14
• If you click in the package and select widgets or icons you can see the information about webcam capture and face detector in the package. But these are not showing up in Orange after I have installed the addon package. – Ethan Mar 7 '17 at 19:18
• I see what you mean about the versions being the same though. So if I do in fact have that installed, and they are the same version as the one you can install through Addons why can't I see those widgets? – Ethan Mar 7 '17 at 19:39
