I was preparing for the data science interview questions and encountered the following problem:

You are given some points in four quadrants and the points are fixed. You need to point the camera at an angle theta from +x axis.

  • Where will you point the camera so as to capture the maximum number of the points?

  • How will you improve your search algorithm?

There was no answer given and it was an open question. How to approach this problem.

My attempts

  • think about clustering algorithms
  • $\begingroup$ I'm sure there might be more than one solution to this problem, to me this may be reformulated to get the axis which contains the greatest amount of variance, i.e this might be found by using PCA. $\endgroup$ – Julio Jesus May 10 at 17:32
